Warning: I thought using a hair dryer to dry paste was a bad idea...

A binder in my old guild swore by it for speeding up the drying on small repairs. I tried it last month on a 1908 poetry book with a loose spine, keeping the heat low and moving it around. It worked way better than just waiting overnight, and didn't harm the paper at all. Has anyone else tried this, or is there a better trick for quick drying?

Oh man, that totally works. I was fixing a bunch of old postcards a while back, the kind with the thick cardboard backs, and just sitting there holding a joint closed forever was killing my hands. Grabbed my wife's hair dryer on the cool setting and just kept it moving. Had them done and stacked in like twenty minutes instead of waiting hours with weights on them. You just gotta be smart about it, low heat and constant motion like you said.

Hair dryers are total lifesavers for craft stuff. My kid once tried to dry a clay dinosaur with mine and ended up melting its tail right off. The cool setting is KEY, otherwise you're just cooking your project. Smart move using it on postcards, that's the kind of hack I love.
