A failed harvest taught me to pay more attention to soil pH

I always ignored soil testing because it seemed too technical. After my tomatoes didn't fruit well, I got a pH kit and found my soil was too acidic. Adding lime fixed it, and now I test regularly. What plant issues have you solved by checking soil?

Hey @brooke_carter, isn't it wild how long soil fixes can take? I learned the hard way that lime needs time to break down. I started adding it in the fall for the next spring's garden, which gave it months to work. That patience really paid off with way better results than when I tried to rush it.

Actually, lime takes months to work.

In my experience, @brooke_carter, lime can be slow, but watering it in thoroughly after application seemed to help in my yard. I had acidic soil that turned grass yellow, and after mixing lime in and keeping the area damp, I saw improvement in about six weeks. Your mileage may vary, since soil conditions play a big role, but consistent moisture might speed up the process. Take that with a grain of salt, as every situation is different.
