Am I the only one who used to kill their air plants by drowning them?

I kept my air plants in little glass terrariums and misted them every day like the internet said. After about 6 months I noticed they all went brown and mushy at the base. My sister walked by and said 'you know those need to dry out completely right?' Turns out I was basically keeping them in a sauna. Now I just dunk them in a bowl of water for 20 minutes once a week then shake them dry upside down. Who else got this simple thing wrong for way too long?

6 months of daily misting in a sealed terrarium sounds about right for keeping them alive actually. Moss grows in terrariums and that's basically what you created, a moss environment that tilts toward the tropical side.
