Finally got my pothos to vine instead of just growing leaves everywhere

I used to just water my pothos whenever I remembered and it just stayed in a little bush shape for like 2 years. Then about 4 months ago I started actually giving it bright indirect light near my east window and trimming the long stems back to the soil. Now it's putting out tendrils that are wrapping around my curtain rod. Has anyone else had a houseplant completely change behavior once you fixed the light situation?

Is it really that deep though, it's just a plant growing.

My sister had a snake plant in a dark corner for like 3 years and it never grew more than 6 inches tall. She moved it to a south window last spring and now it's pushing 4 feet and splitting its pots. Plants are weird like that, they just sit there waiting until you figure out what they actually need.
