Found a hidden orchid blooming behind my shed last week, never knew it was there
I was clearing out an overgrown corner of my backyard in Portland and uncovered this tiny wild orchid that must have been growing unnoticed for years, has anyone else stumbled on something like that in their own yard?

Those hidden ones are usually the hardiest, right

Those hidden ones are usually the hardiest" - yeah but it also depends on what you mean by hidden. The ones tucked under rocks or in crevices tend to handle cold snaps better because they're sheltered from wind. But the ones buried deep in dry soil might actually be more vulnerable to rot if you get a wet winter. I've had pine trees that looked all weak and hidden behind a shed survive a drought better than the big ones out in the open. Location matters just as much as genetics for hardiness.
