Hot take: my monstera has pushed out 11 leaves since spring and I am starting to resent it
I moved it to a corner in my Denver apartment back in April because I felt bad for it, and now it is basically running the place and blocking my one good window. I water it maybe once every 10 days and it just keeps going while my calathea in the same room is out here actively dying. Do I chop it back or just accept that I live in its house now?
My buddy in Capitol Hill had the same thing happen with his monstera last year, it went from 4 leaves to like 15 by August and he just let it win. Then his cat started using it as a jungle gym and knocked the whole pot over twice, dirt everywhere, so he finally cut it back to like 5 leaves and honestly it looks better now. The calathea thing is a lost cause though, those things die if you look at them wrong, so dont blame yourself for that one. I'd chop the monstera, they bounce back stupid fast anyway and you get your window back. Or just lean into it and charge the calathea rent, either way.
