I bought a $70 'smart' plant monitor and my peace lily staged a revolt

So I saw this little gadget online that promised to tell me exactly when to water my plants, check the light, and even the soil nutrients. I figured for seventy bucks, it would end my guesswork with my finicky peace lily. I stuck the sensor in the pot, linked it to the app, and for a week it said everything was perfect. Then the leaves started to droop like crazy. Turns out, the sensor was reading the moisture in one tiny spot, but the root ball was bone dry a few inches over. I had to do the old finger test anyway, and the plant bounced back after a good soak. It felt like the tech made me ignore the actual plant. Has anyone else had a plant gadget give them totally wrong info?

Ever feel like the tech just makes you trust it more than your own eyes? My spider plant did the same thing with a cheap moisture meter, looked fine on the dial but the soil was dust. Sometimes the old ways are just better.

Ugh, tech always overcomplicates the basics.

My sensor actually saved my fiddle leaf fig, but maybe @taylorpatel is right about some tech overcomplicating things.
