Met an old gardener at the botanical garden last June who showed me how to deadhead roses properly
She stopped me while I was hacking away at some bushes and said "slow down, each cut matters" then spent 20 minutes showing me the exact angle. Has anyone else had a random stranger teach them something simple they still use years later?

That "each cut matters" line really stuck with me too. It's wild how one tiny tip can change your whole approach to something. I still think about that whenever I'm pruning anything.

lol yeah I tried deadheading my roses once after watching a YouTube video and ended up cutting off like three perfectly healthy buds before my neighbor came over and showed me what I was doing wrong. Now I just let my plants grow wild and pretend its a "cottage garden aesthetic" because I still mess it up every time. That whole slow down thing is basically the opposite of my default setting, I'm the guy who buys a bookshelf and tries to assemble it without reading the instructions then wonders why it wobbles. So yeah, that kind of specific advice is gold, too bad my brain prefers to learn through chaos.
