My friend in Denver said my plant IDs were all wrong

She pointed out I was mixing up sedum and sempervivum, so now I take a leaf sample to the garden center for help. How do you double-check a tricky plant name?

Oh man, I totally thought those apps were just a gimmick for the longest time. I was wrong though. I tried one last summer on a hike and it nailed this weird berry bush my dog was sniffing at. It's actually kind of wild how fast and right it gets stuff. Changed my whole view on them, for real. Now I use it all the time in my own yard to figure out what's a weed and what I should keep.

Oh absolutely, I had the exact same experience as you @maxmurphy. I was pretty skeptical about those plant ID apps too until a neighbor showed me one a couple years ago. It correctly identified this strange mushroom growing in my backyard that I was worried my grandson might touch. That sold me right there. Now I use it all the time when I'm out walking the dog or working in the garden. It's gotten to the point where I barely even look up plants online anymore, I just snap a picture and it tells me everything. Really handy tool that I think a lot of people are missing out on still.

it's actually kind of wild how fast and right it gets stuff" - yeah maybe for you max but i'm still not sold on these apps being that serious. @skyler_anderson65 i tried one a while back and it told me a maple tree was an oak so idk about trusting them with anything important. half the time i feel like it just guesses and hopes you don't check it. the mushroom thing sounds cool but also kinda risky if it gets something wrong and you eat it or something. i'll stick with just looking stuff up the old way honestly.
