Overheard a barista naming a fern and now I question everything

Was grabbing coffee at that place on 5th and Maple and this barista pointed at a staghorn fern hanging near the window, called it 'Gary', and said it doubles in size every 18 months if you mist it weekly. Made me realize I've been treating my 3 houseplants like decorations instead of living things with actual needs. How many of you actually name your plants and track their growth like that, or am I just late to the party?

This hits way too close to home, I literally just realized my snake plant has been surviving off pure neglect for two years and it still somehow looks fine. It's wild how fast we turn living things into background noise, you know, just furniture with leaves. Honestly, naming Gary is probably the healthiest thing that barista does all day, maybe we all need a little of that energy.
