Paid $22 for a loupe and it caught thrips on my monstera before they spread

I kept staring at the new leaves on my monstera for a week and couldn't see anything wrong, just a little speckling. Then I used a cheap 30x jeweler's loupe from a coin shop and there they were, clear as day, little thrips crawling around the leaf base. Has anyone else had good luck catching pests this way, and do you use a loupe or just your phone camera zoom?
