Pro tip: stop watering your succulents on a schedule, it killed 3 of mine before I figured it out
I keep seeing people in here say they water their succulents every Sunday or every two weeks and I need to say something before more plants die. Succulents do not care what day it is, they care if the soil is dry all the way down, and in my Phoenix apartment that takes 11 days in summer but almost 3 weeks in winter. I lost a jade, an echeveria, and a haworthia last year because I stuck to a Tuesday watering reminder on my phone and the roots just rotted out. When I finally pulled them up the soil was still damp like 2 inches down and the roots were brown mush, not the white healthy ones you want to see. Now I just stick a chopstick in the pot, wait until it comes out clean, and soak the pot till water runs out the bottom hole. My string of pearls has tripled since April doing nothing but that. So what is everyone else using to check moisture, finger, chopstick, or one of those little meters from the hardware store?
