Rant: nurseries keep selling me succulents already rotting at the base
Went to three garden centers around Sacramento this past Saturday and every single pot of echeveria I picked up had soft brown mush hiding right under the bottom leaves. I pulled one out to show the cashier and she just shrugged and said it happens with the big shipments. Is anyone else digging through pots before buying now, or am I just unlucky with the stock out here?
Been seeing this same thing at every big box store around here too, not just succulents. The plants sit in those dark warehouses for weeks and by the time they hit the shelf the roots are already gone. It's like the whole system is set up to move product fast instead of keeping anything alive. Only way to win is checking the stem before you pay, and yeah that means getting your hands dirty in the middle of the store.
