Stopped obsessing over pH meters after that mudslide at the community garden last spring

I was at the Elm Street plot trying to test my soil for the third time when a volunteer grabbed my arm and just pointed at the healthy kale growing in a patch of straight clay - no meter, no amendments, just dirt and water. Has anyone else ditched fancy tools after seeing something beat the odds naturally?

Manure meter guy here, my best tomatoes came from a random compost pile I forgot about for six months.

You mean actual pH cause the mudslide changed everything anyway. @allen.cole that forgotten pile is the real test, not some gadget.
