Thought air layering was a waste of time until I tried it on a ficus last spring

I used to see people on here raving about air layering and I was totally convinced it was just a gimmick (you know, like those plant vitamins). But my neighbor had this old ficus that was getting too tall and leggy, and she dared me to try it. I wrapped up a section with some sphagnum moss and plastic wrap in March, and by June I had actual roots. It felt like magic honestly. Now I'm thinking about trying it on a bigger maple tree in my backyard. Anyone else have a method they swear by for getting the moss to stay damp longer?

Broooo same here, I thought it was some weird gardener myth. But I tried it on a leggy rubber plant last year and now I have like five new ones sitting on my porch. Honestly, for keeping the moss damp, I use a spray bottle with a little bit of rooting hormone mixed in the water. That stuff makes roots pop out like crazy. I also poke a couple tiny holes in the plastic wrap so it doesn't get moldy. My neighbor used old pantyhose over his wrap and swore it helped hold moisture better, so maybe that's something to try.

Sphagnum moss works great for me, just wrap it tight and check weekly.
