TIL bottom watering my pothos stopped the fungus gnat problem cold

Used to just pour water on top every 3 days and kept seeing gnats, then I switched to sitting the pot in a tray of water for 20 minutes about 4 months ago. Now the top soil stays dry and the gnats vanished completely - has anyone else found a weird trick that fixed a plant pest issue overnight?

@aaron677, was the tray water sitting too long or did the pothos just stay soggy even after you dumped it?

My pothos got root rot after 2 months of bottom watering since the tray water was never fully draining out.
