A tech at the VA clinic said my 8 channel EEG cap was too loose and it made me rethink my whole home setup
I have been messing with a cheap 8 channel EEG headset for about a year now, mostly just trying to get a steady alpha wave reading for a little toggle switch project I tinker with in my garage here in Tucson. Nothing fancy. Last month I brought it to a friend who works at the VA clinic to see if she could help me clean up the signal, and she took one look at how I had the cap sitting and said it was way too loose and half my electrodes were basically floating. She said your signal is only as good as your contact and I had been chasing software filters for months when the real problem was on my head. So I tightened everything up, added a little conductive gel instead of just water, and my readings got way more stable overnight. Now I am wondering how many other people on here spent weeks blaming their decoder or their code when the electrodes were the issue the whole time. What did you change that made the biggest difference in your signal quality?
