Almost got scanned for a fake thought-reading demo at a tech fair in Austin

I went to this big tech fair in Austin last Saturday, the one they hold at the convention center downtown. There was a booth advertising a brain-computer interface that could read your thoughts and type them out. The guy running it had me put on this weird helmet with wires sticking out, and he told me to think about a sentence. After a minute, his screen showed the words 'I like pizza.' I was impressed at first, but then I noticed he had a little earpiece in and his buddy was texting him the words from behind a curtain. I called him out on it, and he just laughed and said it was a 'demonstration of potential.' Felt pretty dumb for falling for it, even for a minute. Has anyone else run into these gimmick booths at tech events?

Did you at least get a free slice of pizza out of the deal? I swear half these booths are just people with Bluetooth earpieces and a buddy in the back with a phone. I'd probably fall for it twice before catching on.
