Am I the only one who thinks consumer EEG headsets are way too noisy for real BCI work?
I've been messing around with the Muse and NeuroSky headsets for about 6 months now, trying to build a basic cursor control system for a school project. The problem I keep running into is that every time I move my jaw or blink, the signal jumps all over the place. I did a test last week where I sat completely still and just let it record for 5 minutes, and still saw random spikes that looked like muscle activity. My professor told me these consumer headsets are "toys for meditation apps, not tools for engineering" and I'm starting to think he's right. Has anyone here actually cleaned up these signals enough to get reliable control, or is it just a lost cause until you step up to research-grade gear like a g.tec?

Lol "toys for meditation apps" is exactly what I tell myself when my Muse headset picks up my cat walking across the room and thinks I'm having a seizure. But hey, at least I'm getting better at sitting still and breathing right.

Cat hair shows up on the sensors all the time, it's just a fact of life with those things.
