My 6 month old BCI headset suddenly needs 3x the calibration time
Got a consumer EEG headset back in March for a side project. First 2 months, calibration was a 5 minute thing. Now it takes me 15-20 minutes every session and the signal quality still drops off after 30 minutes. Only thing that changed is I got a new haircut with more product in it, and I moved my setup near a window. Anyone else seen a sudden shift in calibration time like this, or is my unit just degrading?

Figured out the hard way that my gel-filled electrodes and my new styling wax are not friends. My hair product basically turns my scalp into a non-stick pan, so the headset is just sliding around trying to find a signal that used to be easy to grab. As for the window, I moved mine near a fish tank once and the calibration doubled, so I feel your pain on the environmental juju. But honestly, my unit started acting up right after I dropped it on the bathroom floor, so I might just be projecting my own clumsiness onto your setup. Try washing your hair without the product for a week and see if that cuts the time, that worked for me until I gave up and just shaved it all off. If it's still slow after that, then yeah, your unit might be on its way out, but don't ask me because I'm two bad calibrations away from throwing mine into the ocean.
