Neurologist at a Cleveland clinic said something about BCIs that I keep chewing on
Last month I was at a family thing in Cleveland and my cousin's husband is a neurologist at the clinic there. He said most of his patients who ask about brain-computer interfaces are not thinking about typing with their thoughts or anything fun, they just want to know if it can help them swallow or blink on purpose again. I asked him what he says back and he said he usually points them to clinical trials, not the shiny consumer stuff we all read about online. It stuck with me because I got into this topic from sci-fi and gadget videos, and he made it sound way more medical and slow. For the folks here who actually follow the research closely, am I wrong to think the medical side is where the real progress is happening right now and the consumer side is still years off?
