Switched from sticky EEG gel to dry electrodes 8 months ago, and I still miss the gel
Back when I ran sessions at the lab in Tucson, we used conductive gel and a 64 channel cap, which meant 45 minutes of setup and a hair wash after every run. In January I moved to a dry electrode headset for my home setup and setup dropped to about 6 minutes, which honestly changed how often I even bother. The tradeoff is the signal on the dry ones drifts after 30 minutes, so short tests are great and long sessions are a mess. Which side do you land on, clean and fast but noisy, or slow and goopy but solid?
The 45 min gel setup is basically a personality test at this point, if you enjoy it you're a saint and if you don't you buy dry electrodes lol. My lazy self would take the 6 min setup every time, even if my data looks like a seismograph after 30 min. Short runs only for me I guess.
