TIL a quick trick to reduce EEG signal noise during my home sessions
I used to spend 20 minutes adjusting gel caps on my OpenBCI headset and still got crazy noise... then I tried a cheap grounding strap from Amazon for $12. Now I clip it to my desk lamp ground screw and my data is way cleaner. Has anyone else tried grounding themselves before a session?

my pal had this issue where his noise was actually from the lamp itself, it had a cheap switching power supply that leaked a ton of 60Hz hum into the ground. when he clipped his strap to that ground screw, it actually made things worse. maybe test your desk lamp with a multimeter first to see if the ground is actually clean, some of those $12 straps are just a wire with a clip so they can't hurt but they also can't fix a dirty ground source.

I grabbed a strap from the hardware store for $8, same thing basically, and it worked great after I moved my clip to the metal leg of my desk instead.
