Oh come on, not all of them are like that. The problem is usually the fit and the weight distribution, not the tech itself. That one model with the big battery pack strapped to the back, yeah that one is terrible for long sessions. But the lighter ones with the adjustable headbands, I've worn those for 4 hours straight without any pain. You just have to find the right one for your head shape, same as with regular headphones.
