Am I the only one who switched to a grout bag for head joints after 12 years of troweling

Got tired of wiping slop off the brick faces on a 3,200 brick house in Tulsa last month, so I filled a grout bag and squeezed the mortar in instead. Now I'm getting cleaner joints with maybe half the cleanup, is anyone else doing this or am I just late to the party?
