I finally counted all the bricks I've laid in my career

I was cleaning out my work truck last week and found a stack of old job logs. I sat down and added them all up, and it came to just over 1.2 million bricks. That number really got me thinking. I remember my first week on a site in Akron, my foreman had to show me how to properly butter a brick. Now I've laid enough to build a small town. It makes you think about all the walls and chimneys that are still standing out there. Has anyone else ever added up their total like that?

Honestly that "still standing out there" part really gets me. It's not just a number, it's a bunch of real places where people live and work. That's a legacy you can actually see.

Yeah exactly! It makes the whole thing feel way more real.

I used to think it was just a job, looking at numbers on paper. But reading this and thinking about every single one of those bricks being part of something real made me see it completely different now.
