Just realized my choice on a 90s job between brick and block shaped my whole career

Back in '97, I had a choice on a big commercial job in Cleveland: stick with the classic brick facade crew or jump to the new concrete block structural team. I picked block, thinking it was the future. It meant learning a whole new set of skills for laying those 8-inch blocks, and the pace was brutal. Looking back, it set me on a path to doing more foundation and industrial work than fancy exteriors. Anyone else make a switch like that early on and wonder how things would've been different?

Ever notice how one small choice changes everything?

Yeah, that idea about one small choice changing everything is huge. I read this thing once about how a guy missed his usual train, so he took the next one, and ended up sitting next to his future wife. It's wild to picture all the tiny things we do without thinking that send our whole life down a different path. Makes you wonder about all the other versions of your life you didn't get to live, you know? Just because you turned left instead of right on some random Tuesday.
