Old foreman's mortar mix advice saved my ass on a 90 degree day

Buddy of mine from a crew in Phoenix told me to add lime when it's hot. I always skipped it, thought it was old school nonsense. Last Tuesday we hit 94 and the mud was setting before I could lay it. Added the lime exactly like he said, 1 part to 5. Worked like a charm. Stuck to the trowel right, gave me time to level. Anyone else here use lime in summer or do you just work faster?
