PSA: Watch your mortar mix when the thermometer hits 95, learned that one on a job in Phoenix
Was laying block on a wall in Phoenix two summers ago when the temp hit 95 by 10am and my mortar started to set up way faster than normal. I didn't catch it at first, so about 12 blocks went down before I noticed they weren't bonding right, and I had to pull them all off and scrape the joints clean. Now I mix smaller batches and keep a wet burlap over the board from June through August. Anybody got a better trick for slowing the set when it's hot like that?
