Tried mortar mix from a bag instead of my usual batch, never going back

After fighting with wet spots for two hours on a garden wall in Toledo, the bagged stuff laid out smooth and even, so has anyone else made the switch or am I just getting soft?

Bagged mix never sets right in the cold.
