Vent: My brick mailbox project taught me a hard lesson about foundations.

I figured skipping the concrete base for my brick mailbox would save time. It seemed fine initially. A big storm came and knocked it over. That showed me why good footings are key. I'm rebuilding it with a solid foundation now.

Oh man, that hits home. I once tried to build a little garden wall without a proper trench. Just set the first course right on the dirt. Looked great for a week. Then we got a heavy rain and the whole thing just... slid. It was like a brick snake taking a nap. Now I dig down like I'm looking for buried treasure every single time.

Feel that, learned the same lesson the hard way myself.

I was talking about a three hundred dollar mistake on a client's books last year. The lesson was more about double checking spreadsheets before sending them out. Maybe it's not the same hard way you mean?
