Chat with a hostel owner in Lisbon made me rethink booking.com
He told me hostels actually give better rates if you call them direct, because they skip the 15% cut the booking sites take. Has anyone else tried calling ahead instead of using the apps?

Wait, is 15% really that wild? I feel like most platforms are around that ballpark, some even higher. Seems pretty standard to me honestly.
