Found a cheap way to eat in Tokyo... convenience store breakfast stacking
Hotels in Tokyo were killing my budget so I tried something different. I'd grab an onigiri and a pack of miso soup packets from 7-Eleven for like 300 yen total. Then I'd use the hot water dispenser in the hotel lobby to make the soup. Saved me about 800 yen a day compared to cafe breakfasts. After 10 days that's 8,000 yen I could put toward a decent ramen dinner. Has anyone else found a hidden food trick like this in Japan?

Hitting the hotel hot water dispenser for your own miso is genius. I feel like that's the whole secret to traveling and not going broke, isn't it? You see all these little overlaps, like using the hotel's free breakfast as a lunch prep station or packing a power strip because every hotel room has one outlet behind the TV. It's just connecting the dots between what's already there and what you actually need, instead of paying a premium for someone to serve it to you. Respect for finding that extra 8,000 yen for a real bowl of ramen.

Buddy of mine once boiled eggs in a hotel kettle. Worked until housekeeping found the shells.
