Found a trick that saved me $200 on a flight to Denver last month

I was about to book a direct flight to Denver for $400 but got frustrated and tried searching for flights out of a smaller airport an hour away instead. Ended up paying $210 round trip from a regional airport I'd never used before. Has anyone else had luck skipping the big hubs for cheap tickets?

Oh man, my friend Lisa did something similar last year... she drove two hours to some tiny airport in Pennsylvania just to save like $300 on a trip to Chicago. Said it was totally worth it even with the gas money.

It kinda reminds me of how sometimes the shortcut nobody thinks about is the one that actually works, like going to the grocery store at 7am on a Tuesday instead of Saturday afternoon. Not exactly the same thing, but same idea of avoiding the obvious busy route.
