Got scammed by a bus ticket seller in Bangkok and it wrecked my whole trip
I was in Bangkok last March trying to get a bus from the Mo Chit station to Chiang Mai. Some guy in a fake uniform sold me a ticket for 800 baht, said it was the express with AC and snacks. Got on the bus and it was this beat up thing with no AC and a driver who chain smoked the whole way. Took 14 hours instead of 10 because we stopped at every village. Found out later the real price is like 400 baht if you buy from the official counter inside. Now I always check the terminal building first and never buy from anyone standing outside waving a clipboard. Has anyone else gotten tricked by these touts at bus stations?

Oh dude that is so typical of Bangkok. I once had a guy in a fake uniform try to sell me a "VIP" ferry ticket in the south - turned out the boat was basically a fishing boat with some plastic chairs strapped on. I sat next to a guy transporting live chickens the whole time. Now I just assume anyone with a clipboard outside a station is full of it.

Girl YES same thing happened to me at the same station two years ago. Paid 700 baht for what was supposed to be a VIP bus to Phuket and ended up on a broken down thing with no AC and a driver who kept pulling over to buy lottery tickets. Took me 16 hours when it should have been 12. I learned the hard way too, now I always walk straight to the official booth inside and ignore every single person with a clipboard. Did you have to pay extra for your luggage too?
