I finally checked my bank app mid-trip and saw $340 in ATM fees from not using a travel card
Honestly I always thought pulling cash from random ATMs abroad was fine as long as I skipped the ones in airports. Last month in Lisbon I grabbed 200 euros at a kiosk near my hostel, and the machine tacked on a 12 dollar fee plus my bank hit me with a 3% foreign charge. Did that four more times over nine days because I kept telling myself it was just part of the trip. Tbh I could have brought my no fee card and pulled from an actual bank branch for way less, if anyone has a system for finding those spots fast I'd love to hear it.
