I used to think hostel loyalty cards were a scam, then I did the math

I was at a hostel in Lisbon and the guy at the front desk tried to get me to buy their loyalty card for 15 euros. I laughed it off and told him I'd rather just pay per night. But then I ended up staying 8 nights because I met a cool group of people and it would have saved me 40 euros total. Has anyone else actually had a loyalty card pay off for them?

Read some travel blog that broke down the math and convinced me to grab one in Prague.

oh man, i actually looked into that same rabbit hole after i bought one at a local shop in prague and then immediately felt like a sucker when i saw the exchange rate hit me later. like, my brain went "wow this is a steal" but my wallet was like "dude, you just spent the equivalent of three meals on a trinket that's gonna sit in a drawer." at least now i can tell people i have a "strategic financial miniature" from central europe, which sounds way cooler than "i fell for a blog post and bought a fridge magnet tower.
