Lost my mind trying to cook pasta in a hostel kitchen in Barcelona

Last summer I stayed at this busy hostel in Barcelona and decided to save money by making my own dinner. The stove had 4 burners but only 2 worked, and some guy from Australia grabbed the hot one to boil eggs for 20 minutes. I ended up eating cold canned beans and bread while my pasta sat uncooked. Anyone else run into weird kitchen wars on a budget trip?

TWENTY minutes for eggs? That guy was a total menace. I would have lost it after 5 minutes watching him guard that burner like it was his newborn child. Honestly the whole hostel kitchen thing is a war zone, I've seen people literally stand there and stare at a pot of water waiting for it to boil just to claim stove space. One time in Rome I watched a French guy try to microwave pasta in a pan because all the burners were taken, it was the saddest thing I've ever seen. Cold beans and bread sounds about right though, I usually just gave up and ate bread with whatever condiments I could steal from the free breakfast.

Yeah but to be fair you can't really microwave stuff in a metal pan, so that guy had the right idea even if it was stupid. The pan would spark and catch fire in there.
