Saved $47 on a 4 day trip to Savannah by checking the train station lockers instead of the hotel

I kept seeing folks online say you have to pay for early check-in if your flight or train lands before noon. Last month in Savannah my train got in at 9am and the hotel wanted $40 just to hold my bag. The station had lockers for $3 a day so I dropped my stuff there and walked the whole historic district for free. Four days of lockers came out to $12 total instead of $59 in hotel fees. Anyone else use transit lockers in cities where hotels pull this move?
