The $11 hotel breakfast trick that saved my Rome trip

Last month in Rome, I booked a place with no breakfast included to save cash, then hit a local pasticceria near the Termini station. Two espresso and a giant cornetto ran me about 4 euros total, way better than the 12 euro hotel spread. Plus I grabbed a paper cup of their filtered coffee for the walk, which beat any overpriced tourist cafe. Does anyone else skip hotel breakfasts and scout a neighborhood bakery instead, or am I just weird about this?

That “giant cornetto for the walk” line got me. I do the exact same thing when I travel. It’s honestly my favorite part of any trip, just finding that little spot the locals actually use. The hotel breakfast is usually just sad scrambled eggs and watery juice anyway. I’d take a fresh pastry and a real coffee any day. Totally not weird, you’re just doing it right.

The bakery thing is fine, but a 4 euro breakfast versus 12 euro hotel spread is not some big life hack, it's just math. @aaron_ellis42 is making it sound like a whole pilgrimage, but it's literally just coffee and a pastry.
