The old guy at a hostel in Lisbon showed me how he eats for 8 euros a day, and I still think about it
I was in Lisbon a few years back and this retired teacher from Ireland kept a little notebook of every market he hit, with prices written next to each stall. He walked me through the Feira da Ladra on a Tuesday and bought bread, cheese, olives, and a bag of cherries for under 8 euros, then said the trick was never eating near a square with a statue. Does anyone else plan their days around market hours instead of restaurant hours when they travel?
