Had a coworker tell me budgets are just for 'boring people'

I overheard Janet in accounting say budgets kill spontaneity. Meanwhile I paid off $4,000 in credit card debt in 7 months by tracking every dime. How do you handle people who think budgeting is a personality flaw instead of a tool?

People who call budgets boring are usually the ones stressing about money but pretending they don't care. I've been there before I started tracking everything and it was way more stressful guessing where my money went each month. The freedom comes from knowing exactly what you're working with, not from ignoring it until something bounces. Your 7 month payoff is solid proof that a budget is a tool for getting what you actually want, not some cage. Most folks who trash budgets just haven't found a system that clicks for them yet. Let them call it boring while you sleep better at night knowing your finances are handled.

Man I remember my "budgets are boring" phase ended real quick after I overdrew my account buying a burrito. Thought I was too cool for spreadsheets until I realized I was paying like 35 bucks for that burrito with the fees. It's funny how tracking your money feels restrictive at first but then you notice you're not having that panic moment when you check your balance before payday.
