My water heater gave out on a Tuesday morning
I woke up to no hot water last week and knew it was done. Called a local plumber who quoted me $1,200 for a full replacement. Instead, I checked the warranty and found it had 2 years left, so I only paid $150 for the labor. Has anyone else had luck with a home warranty saving them big money?

Oh man, "gave out on a Tuesday morning" is the worst kind of surprise. I feel that deep in my soul. My old furnace picked the coldest night in January to quit. That sinking feeling when you realize a major thing just broke is awful. Good on you for checking the warranty first, that's a huge win.

Ugh, that sinking feeling is the worst part... @taylor82 is right. The real kicker is the timing always feels personal, like the house itself chose to mess with you. Makes you wonder if appliances have a secret calendar for maximum chaos.

Double check that warranty fine print though... some of them cover the tank but not the labor or permits, which is where they get you. I had a buddy who thought he was covered and still ended up paying almost $400 for the install fee and extras. Still way better than $1,200 though, so you definitely came out ahead on that one.
