Shoutout to my brother for his jar of spare change

I was at his place on Saturday and saw a big pickle jar full of coins on his counter. He said he's been dropping his change in there for about a year and just cashed it in for over $300. He used it to pay his car insurance for the quarter. I never thought loose change could add up to a real bill like that. Has anyone else done something simple like this that actually worked?

Over $300 in a year is wild... what kind of coins was he mostly saving? Like, was it just whatever was in his pocket or did he toss in bigger stuff too?

My dad saved over $400 last year just from his daily coffee change. He throws in all his coins, but the quarters really add up fast.

My dad must be in competition with yours or something. He just dumps every quarter, dime, nickel, and penny he gets into a big pickle jar by the door. Last year he cashed it in for a little over $350 and spent it all on lottery tickets, which he of course lost. So really the coins just turned into paper and then disappeared. He'd probably have been better off setting the quarters on fire for warmth.
