Showerthought: My grocery store's 'savings' aisle was costing me money

I was grabbing a 'deal' on chips and salsa when I saw my total was $15 higher than usual. I realized I only went down that aisle for the yellow tags, but I was buying stuff I never planned to get. Anyone have a trick to avoid those impulse buys in the middle of the store?

Stick to a physical list and only grab what's on it. I don't even look at the endcaps anymore.

@sarahmorgan has the right idea, because those endcaps are designed to make you spend more. I even leave my list on the passenger seat so I have to go back and check it. It turns a quick trip into a focused mission.

Yeah, I used to think those deals were actually saving me money too. Sarahmorgan's list trick finally got me to stop grabbing random stuff with yellow tags. Now I just go straight for what I need and get out.
