Unpopular opinion: budgeting apps make you spend more, not less

I was at a coffee shop in Austin last month and overheard some dude bragging about how YNAB saved him $500. Meanwhile I checked my own app and saw I spent $80 on that same coffee shop that week. Apps just make you think about money constantly but dont actually stop you from buying stuff. I deleted mine 3 weeks ago and my credit card bill dropped by $150 just by using cash envelopes. Anyone else drop their budgeting app and see a difference?

Is it possible the app just made you more aware of guilt spending without actually fixing the habit itself?
