Unpopular opinion: I stopped tracking every single dollar and my budget finally worked
For about three years I wrote down every coffee and every gas stop in a little notebook, and I would quit by week two every single time. Last January I switched to just tracking the four big bills, rent, truck payment, food, and savings, and I have not missed a month since. My wife said it was because I was spending 20 minutes a day on stuff that did not matter, and she was right. Now I put $150 a week into savings first and whatever is left is fair game. Has anyone else had better luck tracking less instead of more?
