Hot take: I finally got my grandmother's 1983 letter past Vietnam's stamp guy
My grandmother mailed a letter from Saigon in 1983, and for 40 years my uncle kept telling me it got stopped by censors and never made it out. Last month I paid 5 bucks to a guy in Ho Chi Minh City who runs a small blog about old postal marks, and he found the actual archive record: the letter was held for 11 days, stamped, then sent to Bangkok anyway. The censorship stamp on the back matched his photo exactly, down to the little smudge. So the letter was never lost, it just sat in a drawer for a while, which honestly sounds like most of my mail. Has anyone else had luck pulling old shipping records like this from a local archive?
