Just realized my VPN search history in Beijing showed a blank page for a major protest story that was trending everywhere else.

I learned that some firewalls don't just block sites, they can make it look like the story never existed at all, which is way more unsettling. Has anyone else had a search just go completely empty on a topic you know is big?

Used to think blocks were obvious but @the_wesley is right, this silent erasure is way worse.

Yeah that's the creepy part. It's not just a block, it's a full rewrite of what you can even see exists. Makes you wonder what else gets wiped clean.

Full rewrite of what you can even see exists" - come on man, thats a bit dramatic isnt it? The whole point of blocking someone is so you dont have to deal with them. If I block someone, I WANT them erased from my feed. I dont want to see their posts, replies, or even know they exist anymore. Thats the whole reason I hit that button in the first place. Honestly the old way where you could still see stuff from blocked people just made the feature useless. Like if I tell the platform I dont wanna see someone, I expect them to actually disappear. Its not scary, its just better design. And "what else gets wiped clean"? Nothing man. Its just the people you choose to block. Youre acting like theres some conspiracy when really its just a standard feature that every social media app has now. If you dont like it, dont block anyone. Simple as that.
