My buddy in Colombia said the real news never leaves Bogota

He claimed local outlets blocked a story about a river pollution coverup by a mining company for 3 weeks. I ended up finding the full report on a European site and sent it to him. Has anyone else had a contact in another country tip them off to a story that got buried locally?

Real news never leaves Bogota" is such a wild line but honestly it tracks with what I've seen in other places too. I had a buddy in Indonesia tip me off about a factory fire that got zero coverage locally because the owner was a bigwig's cousin or something. Ended up finding the whole thing on some German media outlet, it was crazy how different the story was. Makes you wonder how much stuff just gets buried by local interests everywhere.

Yeah, that tracks hard. I was in Thailand a few years back and heard about a river contamination that was poisoning a whole village, but the local papers just blamed it on farmers. Turned out a big resort was dumping chemicals upstream and everyone knew about it except the people who lived there. It's wild how much truth gets filtered through who has money and connections.
